$1M Settlement: Rear-End Collision on Interstate 64 in St. Louis
A St. Louis County man, Daniel Tracy, has reached a series of settlements totaling almost $1 million after being injured in a 2017 rear-end collision on Interstate 64 near Forest Park. Tracy, who was driving a 2007 Nissan owned by his employer, was hit from behind by a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Tyler Kearns of New Athens, Illinois, during heavy traffic.
The accident, which occurred on March 22, 2017, at 8:20 a.m., resulted in significant injuries for Tracy, including trauma to his head, neck, back, and hip. He subsequently filed a lawsuit against Kearns, alleging negligence in the operation of the vehicle.
The settlements were secured across multiple claims: $45,241 from a state workers’ compensation claim, $800,000 from an underinsured motorists’ claim through Tracy’s employer’s insurance with Nationwide, and $100,000 from a third-party liability claim. These settlements were finalized between 2020 and 2024.
